No New Additions This Week

After several weeks of flag football announcements, the past week has gone silent on new additions. 116 club and varsity teams are competing at colleges and universities across the nation this spring. More than 75 universities are planning to add flag football for the 2026 spring season.

Coaching News

Andrew College (GA) selected Derrick Lucas as the program's first flag football head coach. Lucas currently serves as the associate head coach for the men's football program. Andrew will begin competing in the 2026 spring season in the NJCAA.

Keystone College (PA) announced Ben Arsenault as the school's first flag football head coach. Arsenault will be pulling double duty as he will also be the head coach of Keystone's women's basketball team. Keystone will begin competing during the 2026 spring season as a member of the NCAA Division III United East Conference.

Marywood University (PA) named Bill Reiss as the school's inaugural flag football head coach. Reiss is an assistant football coach at Lackawanna College (PA) and will continue to maintain those duties while coaching Marywood. Marywood will begin competing in the 2026 season as a member of the NCAA Division III Atlantic East Conference.

William Woods University (MO) announced that Charlie Holloway is the school's new flag football head coach. Holloway replaces Joe Schlager, who left to take the flag football head coaching role at Wingate (NC). William Woods is competing in the NAIA's Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) for the 2025 season and was 6-3 overall at the time of the announcement.

Future Camps and Clinics

Illinois College is hosting a flag football combine on Sunday, April 6. The event will start at 10:45 AM and culminate with the flag football combine from 1:30 to 3:30 PM. Illinois College is located in Jacksonville, Illinois, and is slated to begin competing in flag football during the 2026 spring season.

The University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas, will host the Nike BallHER flag football camp from June 24 to June 26, 2025. Millersville University (PA) is hosting a camp from June 26 through 29, 2025, as noted by Cedar Crest College (PA) in nearby Allentown.

Initial US National Team Roster Named

The United States Women's Flag Football National team named its initial 18 athletes who will ultimately compete to play in the 2025 IFAF Flag Championships. Five current NAIA flag football players made the roster including three on the 18-athlete list: Addison Orsborn from Ottawa (KS), Ashlea Klam from Keiser (FL), and Kennedy Foster from Keiser (FL). Current Keiser player Brenna Ramirez was named as an alternate as was 2024 Keiser graduate Brianna Hernandez-Silva.

LA28 Flag Football Venue Set

Flag football is making its Olympic debut at the 2028 Games and its venue is set. BMO Stadium near the University of Southern California will host flag football in the Olympic Games. The stadium is home to the MLS's Los Angeles FC and the NWSL's Angel City FC.

Minnesota High School Flag Football

The Minnesota Vikings have been instrumental in growing the sport of flag football. Earlier in March, the NFL franchise announced a six-team collegiate league that begins play this spring. At the high school level, the Vikings wanted to create a 20-team league. Instead, 51 schools throughout Minnesota will compete in a four-week regular season and two-week playoffs.

Minnesota has not sanctioned flag football as a high school sport but the effort by the Vikings could help change that. 14 states have already sanctioned flag football as a sport: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Mississippi, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. Louisiana and Washington have proposals in April 2025 that, if approved, would see flag football sanctioned as a high school sport. North Carolina will discuss whether to sanction the sport later this spring as well.
